Kassai Akitas

Big Bear Taz Man Go, C.D. CGC

This is Bear, our first Akita. Purchased as a pet in 1993, he was a great introduction to the breed. Bear was our first example of the typical Akita temperament we strive to maintain in our household, aloof when necessary with strangers, affectionate with family and friends. Despite his typical Akita dominant attitude towards other dogs, he knew that Mom and Dad were the REAL alphas of the pack, and was accepting of every other dog we ever introduced to the household, male or female. While I knew that Bear was not a prime conformation example, I still was anxious to get into a ring with him, so we ventured into the Obedience ring. Never let anyone tell you Akitas are not smart, they are VERY smart, one of those rare 'thinking' breeds, which is part of what makes them so challenging :) Bear and I fairly easily acquired his Obedience title, which is what the C.D. is after his name (Companion Dog). Sadly, we lost Bear in August 2007, shortly after he reached is 14th birthday. Thanks for everything Big Bear Baby! You have left a big void in our hearts.
