'Saga'
This is Saga, our introduction to the Conformation ring. She was purchased in 1998 from breeders Paula and Brian Lane of Valiant Akitas. A spitfire from the moment she was born, Saga even at 8 weeks ruled our two resident males with an iron paw! As I mentioned, Saga was my introduction to the world of Conformation, and the poor girl had to suffer through handling class after handling class as I learned the ropes. During her brief conformation career, Saga won five points towards her championship. However, it was soon discovered that she experienced idiopathic seizures (no known cause). She didn't really enjoy the show ring, and since we wouldn't breed her because of her condition, the decision was made to spay her. She and I occasionally venture into the Obedience ring, and she is pictured above placing first in the Novice B class of the 2004 Akita Club of America National Specialty, her first time in Obedience competition! Saga definitely enjoys Obedience work more than she did Conformation, and, if time allows, we will eventually get that Obedience title!
